What Is Jyotish? Vedic Astrology & the Science of Light | Wolf Hollow
September 23, 2026 · Christina Erl

Jyotish is ancient, Vedic Astrology, also known as "The Science of Light" and "the Eye of the Veda".
Jyotish is the Sidereal form of astrology, meaning it is astronomically accurate throughout time. By taking into account the precession of the equinoxes, Vedic astrology has remained astronomically accurate for millennia.
Through the light and science of Jyotish we are able, through one's unique birth chart, to see the unique expression of a soul in this chosen lifetime – astrology serves as window into the soul and a mirror for its embodiment, helping us to better understand the lifetime we are living.
Jyotish transforms seeking into discovery.
Anyone who has ever lit a candle in a dark room knows the transformative power of light…. One can think of Jyotish as the light of consciousness which illuminates one’s mind into expanded states of awareness, new perception and deeper understanding of self.
As one’s self-awareness expands through the insights received in a Jyotish reading, one may be empowered and enlightened by this knowledge. After all, the better we are able to see, the less likely we are to ‘bang into things’ in a dark room. Life can be similar.
Most of us are constantly searching for any insight that will better help us understand who we are, why we are here and why we are facing certain difficulties and challenges at times.
Challenge is inevitable in life, but how we handle the challenges we face changes everything.
Every challenge holds within it great opportunity for growth, especially if we are supported in learning from them.
Astrology offers us a way to answer these fundamental questions of being human and also guides us forward with deep insight about our own psyche – by illuminating our patterns and the Archetypes living within us, we becomes more conscious and aware of how we are navigating the world.
Once we are aware of something it can no longer live in the shadows. Therefore, a pattern of self-sabotage, for example, that has been running off a subconscious program inherited long ago can begin to fall away. This can be very freeing.
Astrology can also help us clearly see our natural gifts. Many find they receive much needed validation for the kinds of things they've been longing a lifetime to explore. A birth chart reading can reveal much about your soul's unique talents and gifts and how it seeks to express them in this life.
For example, I have sat with many people who have held a heart whisper inside them for decades, but have been too afraid to act. It could be the desire to write, or travel, or build a community, the examples are endless, but what is common is that the conditioning of the mind has overridden every creative impulse from within, keeping them from fulfilling a part of their soul's destiny – until they can see clearly in their chart as exactly what they came to do. It's the kind of validation many of us need to take the first step.
Part of the consistent accuracy and insight has to do with its astronomical accuracy. Another big part of the Vedic Astrology is that not only do we look at the 12 Sun Signs, but we also look at the 27 Lunar Signs, and the Dashas (Planetary Seasons), which reveal deeper layers of the psyche's patterns and purpose.
A single Jyotish reading can change and illuminate your life with meaning, deep insight and clarity.
The ultimate purpose of astrology is to realign us with Nature and the cycles of which we are a part. The more in tune with Nature we become, the greater becomes the ease and flow of our lives. Together, we work on creating this flow in life and your birth chart is one of the best guides for finding the way forward on the path that is uniquely yours to walk.
